Professor Haileab and Nick Holschuh, a Carleton College undergrad, have been working to create a comprehensive water chemistry map of Rice County Minnesota. Using approximately 70 sample collection sites across the county, the two have analyzed the water for the presence of cation pollutants in an attempt to describe both seasonal variation and pollution level changes over time. Using ArcGIS, the two have created interpolated maps of the county showing a snapshot of pollution levels during summer and fall of 2008, and spring of 2009.
