Bereket Haileab was born and raised in Eritrea, East Africa. He completed his secondary school in Asmara, where he lived until he was 19. Upon completing his undergraduate education he was accepted to Addis Ababa University. From here, he moved to the United States to continue his education at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, where he got his doctorate.
